Adding/Editing Items for Bidding in the Online Auction
Items can be sold to the highest bidder in an online auction or opened for bidding online then moved to the gala event for additional bidding.
Note: This article focuses on elements unique to making an item available to sell in an online auction. For info on how each field/component on the Item detail form is used, see Entering an Item for Silent Bidding.
To add an item for bidding in the online auction:
Go to Catalog > Add/Edit Item
1. Online items being sold to the highest bidder must have quantity = 1. To sell more than one, Clone the item to create a separate vehicle for bidding.
2. Select Silent type to display the price fields to support competitive bidding. Live type cannot be sold in an online auction. If you would like to offer pre-bidding for Live items prior to your gala event, edit the item type to Silent for the duration of the online bidding (be sure to mark as available at both regular and online auctions). Once the online bidding closes, edit the item back to Live for the gala event.
3. Select the desired venue(s). There are three critical settings for controlling if/when high bidders are notified that they won an item:
- If Automatic Closeout is enabled (Admin > Site Settings > Online Auction > General)
- If Transfer Online Items to Gala is enabled (Admin > Site Settings > Online Auction > General)
- Which venues are selected.
If both Admin settings are enabled, items that are only marked to sell in the Online Auction will be awarded to the high bidder at closing. Items that are marked to sell at both venues will not be awarded and the high bid will display as the opening bid on each bid sheet.
4. Specify the opening and closing times for BIDDING on this item.
You can set a default opening and closing time for BIDDING on all new items and specify when the online auction items are available for VIEWING at Admin > Site Settings > Online Auction > General)
You can also edit the opening and closing times for BIDDING on multiples items at once using the Bulk edit feature on the Catalog page.
